Access for all Ludwick Way Methodist Church
The church wanted to make improvements to their existing building in order to ensure that services and facilities can be provided in a way that do not discriminate against people with disabilities.
An Access Audit Report prepared by Hertfordshire Action on Disability highlighted inadequacies with ramped and stepped approaches to the main entrance and raised thresholds to fire escape doors. Our solution was to reform paths, ramps and steps in line with best practice set out in BS 8300:2001 - ‘Design of buildings and their approaches to meet the needs of disabled people’.
We discarded the option to create a new entrance from the church car park as disabled people may feel discriminated against if they were not able to use the main entrance.
More recently, a platform lift has been installed to provide access to first floor accommodation.
